De-Clutter & Cash in
Someone once wrote an article on “How to De-Clutter in One Day”, I’m sorry but unless you’ve got a couple of skips outside, and you’re emptying the whole house into them, then this is impossible.

For people who just want to de-clutter the house, get rid of unwanted items and make a little cash into the bargain…..Read on!

Recycle your old mobiles
This is the easiest form of de-cluttering, as there's a whole industry set up to help. If you have an old mobile phone lying around the house, several companies will happily take the relegated beast off your hands. Not only could this bag you as much as £160 but, by not throwing it out with the rubbish, you'll also be doing your bit for the environment. It depends on the phone and demand, but some of the higher-end handsets will easily net more than £100. It only takes five minutes to check out what yours is worth. Failing that you could always sell it on EBay.

Next, you’ll need to go through the house systematically, one room at a time and make sure you have some boxes to put your unwanted items in. If you’ve not used something for 12 months then it’s unlikely you ever will, so in that case get rid of it.

Try grouping things together, clothes in one box, toys & games in another, books, videos & CDs in another etc. If you’ve got a good supply of boxes try splitting these down into things you can list on EBay & items to take to a Car Boot. If you have any antiques that you don’t want, try your local auction house before putting your items on EBay.

EBay
If you have an EBay account then ideally wait for “10p listings” days; this way, even if a few things don't sell, you won't be out of pocket - and you'll maximise the profit margin. Rather than listing each item one at a time, sell them in bundles of similar sizes and quality. People tend to prefer buying in bulk. Named or designer items are better off being listed on their own. If selling anything electrical, make sure it works and all the accessories are present. Lastly if you’re going to post the item make sure you charge enough for postage & packing so that you’re not out of pocket. If you don’t have an EBay account or you don’t have the time to list all your items; try a Trading Assistant who will list all your items for you. Once everything that will sell has sold, you’ll get the money less EBay fees and commission; the commission is usually negotiable.

Car Boot
Once you’ve exhausted the EBay items plan the next phase of your cash making scheme. Car Boots are an ideal place to get rid of the rest of the items you have. Everything that you didn’t manage to sell on EBay; plus the rest of your boxes can be taken to your local Car Boot site and sold. This is usually a local market or rugby/cricket/working men’s club premises etc. You can either label all your items or just sell for whatever, you can get for them. Be prepared to barter, as some people want stuff giving away. Unless you want to have to take a load of stuff back home be ruthless. Once you’ve finished, anything that’s left can be put into a job lot and re-listed on EBay.

Amazon
Amazon is probably the best option for selling old books, (unless they are especially rare or collectable) since you need only type in their ISBN numbers and a short description; Amazon will provide full synopses and reviews of most from its database. If you're listing a few in one go, this can save you a lot of time. Plus, Amazon marketplace listings last 60 days, and re-listing books which don't sell is free, so you needn’t keep spending after the initial fee.
