What is Multiple Concepts
Multiple Concepts is at the moment, very much a one man band named Mark Thomas. Although originally from an engineering background; I became an HGV driver in 1998. I have also served with HM Forces, serving in Bosnia and Kosovo on 5 operational tours and returning to the UK at the end of 2002 after which I left the army and returned to driving. After 5 years of truck driving I am now starting a multi faceted business so that hopefully in the near future I can leave driving and concentrate on running my own business. The business has many factions; computer recycling, refurbished computer systems, EBay auctions, car boot sales to name but a few. I also chrome automobile parts for Vauxhall engines and again these are available on an exchange basis on my website.
What we do
Multiple Concepts is primarily a brand new Computer Recycling Company which removes obsolete computer equipment from companies, local authorities etc. The equipment is stripped, checked and sorted into their generic components. The cases and power supplies are sent to a scrap metal merchant to be recycled. The motherboard is stripped of memory, CPUs and add-on cards for further use or recycling, the components are then checked for serviceability. Hard drives are cleared of all data, and again checked for serviceability; only hard drives with capacities of 80 GB or more are used to refit computer systems for resale; the remainder are recycled as end of life items. The remaining components are put into more modern cases and upgraded for sale at bargain prices to the general public, local clubs and students.
The concept
My intention is to prove low income families, students and clubs with an extremely low cost route into the world of IT. As well as providing this service the website is also used as a platform for informing people of ways to possibly save money and eventually how to make a small additional income if possible. This is not always possible as some people (no matter what you do) will not be able, or not be willing to invest the time or money into improving their lives and although I’d like everyone to have a better standard of living I’m under no illusion that this isn’t always the case and you can’t help anybody who isn’t willing to help themselves.
The idea
This is not a charity site nor is it an eCommerce site. It is an amalgamation of concepts and ideas which gives companies and local authorities an extra source of disposal of their obsolete equipment and at the same time helping the environment and assisting in the increase of information available to certain groups of people through the medium of the internet It informs individuals of ways that they can save money at home and whilst using their car. It is also a platform for information to assist certain people to escape the poverty trap using the information at their disposal to better their lives, just as I am doing.
The future
Last year my son came to live with me and so my priorities changed; and with him the need to increase my income. To that end, I work full time, recycle computers, building bespoke Computers from time to time and every now and again I have a stall on one of our local markets selling basic computers, PC ancillaries and peripherals and last but not least selling items on EBay. So far, I’ve not made much in the way of profit and I can’t see me retiring any time soon or being able to give up my day job so to speak. But with a bit of luck and some hard work I’ll be able to provide for us both.
